This unique residential rural community was created in the mid-1970's, less than 20 years after the area was covered by the 1955 lava flow. Kalapana Seaview is now the beautiful ocean-side home to a diverse community of people who enjoy the peace and tranquility of rural living in a tropical climate.
The climate year round is warm and residents can depend on enough rainfall to supply their catchment water systems. In 1996 electricity was brought into the community. All the streets are paved and maintained by the county. Kalapana Seaview has three community parks with the two-acre Ocean Park providing residents a place to relax and enjoy a tranquil setting and one with a covered pavilion where a variety of activities are frequently held.
